u-mee Super IV League (Round 4):
In the first game of the evening, an under strength DHL Stormers, as a result of injuries and absences, gave a good account of themselves, but a ruthless Sovereign Insurance Scorpions side took full advantage, running in 9 tries, and managing to convert 6 of them to add insult to injury! With their 57-14 win, they have notched up a second 50+ points win, in as many weeks, and have averaged 7 tries a game this season.
And, in the second game, the Ibex Buccaneers got sweet revenge, after their narrow defeat at the hands of the Inline Framing Sharks in Round 1, running out eventual winners by 20-7. It was tight all the way, but the Buccs kept better control in the second half, and two penalties were enough to to squeeze out a plucky Sharks team.
The Scorpions are becoming the team to beat this season, and now head the League table by a clear six points. The Buccs, second win, and better goal difference means that they now edge the Sharks for the number two position in the League. And the Stormers find themselves in unfamiliar territory propping up the bottom. All still to play for.
Unsurprisingly, Scorpion players hold the top three slots for points scorers, with Scott Thompson topping the table on 35, Seb Triay on 32 – thanks in no small measure to his six conversions and two tries on Tuesday – and Jack Jones taking third spot on 30. These three are well in the lead with the with their nearest rivals on 15 points.
