u-mee Super IV League (Round 3):
In the first game of Round 3 of the u-mee Super IV League held on the 31st October, the Ibex Buccaneers faced the Sovereign Insurance Scorpions and any thoughts of a Buccs revival, following last weeks win, were shot to pieces by a dominant Scorpions. As Buccs stalwart Steve Croft said, ‘not sure of the final score but we were thrashed – they had us out wide with a lot of pace’. With Round 2’s decisive win against the Sharks, and another bumper score, 55-5, the Scorpions are beginning to look like their old selves from a couple of seasons ago.
In the other match of Round 3, a tight game with great end to end rugby with neither side able to dominate proceedings. In fact, it was so close that it took a try saving tackle from, new to rugby, Giancarlo Rocca of the Inline Framing Sharks, only two metres from the line and deep into added time, to preserve their narrow three point lead and give them a victory by 20-17 over the DHL Stormers.
The Scorpions win bonus point in Round 3, means they top the table at 10 points after three rounds, just ahead of the Sharks, with the Stormers and the Buccs propping up the bottom on five points apiece. What is clear, however, is that the League is wide open and, after the first three games, there is still all to play for.
