The DHL Stormers RFC commenced the Super IV league by being known as the nearly men, coming second in the league for the first few seasons until the third Super IVs season when they managed to go one better and win the league for the first time, led by the first ever Gibraltar International Captain Chris Lugnani and Nick Culatto. The team was guided to victory by three hall of famers of the game all of whom are now retired, Charlie Lavarello at 8, Nick Cruz at scrum half and Steve Eccleston pulling the strings at Fly Half, with the outstanding performer of the season being Teddy Sacarello at 12.
The team is renowned for its very attacking style of play by both scoring and conceding plenty of tries. The Stormers could be compared to the France International team, you just never know what to expect from them. That said they have plenty of international experience to call on, both past and present such as Alex Lavarello, Freddie Cruz (current Gib captain) and Ronnie Gache aka ‘Frank the Tank’.
The Stormers team spirit is like any other rugby nationality, a very tight knit group who enjoy a social or two, unsurprisingly things can get a little rowdy with old school friends, a father and son and three brothers and 3 Irishmen all in the team!
